The EP, due out on December 1 through Dammit Distribution and 2 Bar Town Records, represents a new chapter for Hutchinson and Gill. The record was mastered by Alex Wharton at Abbey Road Studios in London, whose credits include The Beatles, Pixies, and Massive Attack—a career highlight for both artists.
The lead single, Die On This Hill (Pt II), was recorded in just three hours at Black Tail Recordings in Hamilton, Ontario, during the total solar eclipse—a moment Hutchinson described as “a message from God.” The track delivers a blistering social commentary on wealth inequality, fueled by a fierce energy that captures both anger and purpose.
Beyond its political charge, The Meek Are Getting Ready carries deep personal meaning. Hutchinson and Gill have both spoken about channeling real-world frustration into art, with Trevor drawing from his recovery after serious health challenges, including multiple strokes that impacted his ability to play music. That experience reignited his creative drive and inspired the EP’s defiant tone, while JP Gill’s steady collaboration and shared vision grounded the project in emotional depth and purpose.
The title itself is a nod to the Biblical line “The meek shall inherit the earth,” which Hutchinson and Gill interpret as a call for the people—not the powerful—to rise. “We’re saying the non-ruling people are ready now. It’s time to change things,” Hutchinson explains. “It’s time to overthrow the current order. It’s time to chase the money-changers out of the temple.” That revolutionary mindset flows through every track, especially Our Demands Are Non-Negotiable, which first appeared on Dammit Records’ Dam-Nations compilation series.
