Over the last two years, up-and-coming artist Nay Luma has quickly made a name for herself as one of pop music’s brightest stars. Inspired by iconic acts like Lady Gaga and Bebe Rexha, and making music with infectious melodies and driving pop rhythms, Nay Luma is carving her own path in the pop industry. Her career has quickly gained steam following a 2021 that was filled with viral release after viral release, including hits like her pop-anthem “Remember The Taste” (2021) to the slower, more deliberate single “Wolves” (2021). With her latest release “Hang Up” Nay Luma shows off her growing confidence as an artist. With no hesitation, Nay Luma says goodbye to the narcissists and naysayers spreading lies around her. The result is a track that is fun, sexy, and different than just about anything else in the pop genre today.
We were excited for the opportunity to sit down with Nay Luma and talk about everything from her inspirations, creative process, and career, as well as her hit new single “Hangup”. Check out Idols 2 Rivals exclusive conversation with Nay Luma, below:
Idols 2 Rivals: What first got you into music?
Nay Luma: When I first met Lady Gaga‘s producer (Red One) I was inspired by him and his amazing energy. Lady Gaga was always one of my favorite artists so it was amazing getting to know the producer of One of my favorite singles “Bad Romance”.
I2R: What’s the meaning of your track “Hang Up”?
NL: ”Hang up” was inspired by people who like to play the game of telephone. One situation exaggerated into what 10 people can create it to be… basically a full fabricated story with no correlation with the original. To “Hangup” is to Disassociate when it comes to narcissists, anything toxic, and to not seek validation from anyone because you don’t need it.
NL: Artists with a lot of heart and emotion in their music. Whether it is the beat or melody, I have always loved music and writing.
I2R: How would you describe the music that you typically create?
NL: It comes from a real place, always. There was always a point in time that I take myself to in order to come up with my lyrics.
I2R: What is your creative process like?
NL: I like to connect with the beat first. If my soul feels it, Then I have the words to say.
I2R: Who would you most like to collaborate with?
NL: Lately it has definitely been Ed Sheeran. The Chainsmokers would be amazing as well.
I2R: If you could go open a show for any artist, who would it be?
NL: I would love to open for The Chainsmokers!
I2R: What is one message you would give to your fans?
NL: Make sure you are pursuing something you love so you have something great to live for.
I2R: What would you be doing right now if it wasn’t for your music career?
NL: Anything in the field of business where I can socialize with many humans as possible! I never was good with a 9 to 5. I have a freelance spirit.
I2R: How do you feel the Internet has impacted the music business?
NL: It definitely made music easier to find.
I2R: What is your favorite song to perform?
NL: My favorite track of mine to perform is “Hangup” and “Remember The Taste”

NL: Lady Gaga, Bebe Rexha, Dua Lipa, Diplo, Chainsmokers
I2R: What is the best advice you’ve been given?
NL: Always focus on the plan. Don’t focus on Any negativity around you. Use your head space or positivity and crush your dreams.
I2R: What’s next for you?
NL: Next will hopefully be big collaborations and performances all over the world!
