Kingston, Jamaica continues to be a powerhouse of musical innovation and among its rising forces is Paul Kerr, better known as Distant Plannet. A genre versatile artist, writer, producer, and mixing engineer, Distant Plannet has been shaping sound and pushing boundaries in the music industry for over 20 years.
Music was ingrained in Distant Plannet’s life from an early age. Introduced by his grandfather who would mesmerize him with melodies flowing from tube amps, he quickly developed a fascination with sound and rhythm. Surrounded by the strong musical presence of his family and influenced by groups like World Movements Sound, his passion became undeniable.
In 2009 Distant Plannet co founded Soniclinks Productions with Supa Blacks, providing a creative platform for artistry and collaboration. A year later he began developing his craft in beat making, which paved the way for his debut single Minimum Wage in 2015.
Known for his engineering skills, Distant Plannet has worked with some of dancehall’s finest, including Grammy Award winning legend Beenie Man as well as Chris Thomas The CEO, Wayne Wonder, Demarco, and many others. In 2016 he joined IWAAD Music LLC, further solidifying his position in the industry.
Influenced by icons like Timberland, Dr. Dre, and Pharrell, Distant Plannet continues to push boundaries. If given the chance to sit with any artist, he points to Timberland as a major inspiration, admiring his drum patterns, creativity, and percussion that spark new ideas.
